This item will only work with Windows XP. I used my laptop with Windows 10 and it did not work it downloaded all the drivers and seem to be working fine however the scanner would not work. So if you have an old XP computer this will work pretty well. If you are looking for a high resolution picture don't buy this product. I only had to scan one slide and only have to get it to 5 by 7 and it will work okay. If you aren't wanting to spend a ton of money this is a great scanner for you. Bad Buy

The software was fine. The download was quick and simple. ☺ There was a problem with the USB cable. According to the installation instructions once the cable was inserted the computer would read it and all that was needed was to follow the introductions on the screen for the hardware to be installed. bounced it off the floor and into the wastebasket.

when i 1st got it working, it seemed fine. i installed it on a pc using windows vista. the product says it works with vista and xp. i installed the driver and software with the included cd. when i hooked up the scanner, the pc said i needed a driver and got one off the internet. that's when it started working. i didn't think much about it, just figured it was an updated driver or something. a couple of days later my pc started having blue screen errors. this pc had been trouble free for a few yrs and this scanner was the last thing i added to it. the blue screen error mentioned the possibility of a driver issue. hint... hint. it kept getting worse and i finally had to completely reinstall my operating system. i can't prove that the scanner driver was the cause, but i've read other reviews that said there were issues with this item and vista.
i've since bought an image lab fs9t slide and negative scanner from walmart.com. it is great! no software needed.
works just like a digital camera. has ac adapter included or you can use batteries. if you get one, i would get a memory card, too. it has a small internal memory that holds about 9 pictures.Read full review...

This scanner is what it is for the price.

I had an older version of this scanner which worked very well. It was quick and gave good quality of picture. Now I have the updated version and so far I am not as pleased. I have had trouble capturing the pictures from slides sometimes having to press capture more than one time. Then it can take awhile to incode into the computer. Don't know if this is due to my scanner or my computer which is older. I have not been able to use the high quality scan like I did with the older unit. If you want an scanner for a low price then this one might work, but if you ane looking for high quality scans then I probably would go with a different unit.Read full review...

Works well, basic but adequate for most purposes

Needing to scan some 500 B/w and color negatives, I decided to try this scanner. On the plus side, this scanner is solidly built, totally quiet in operation, with well-designed negative and mounted-slide holders. It operates reasonably fast (about four scans per minute, at normal resolution). The main weakness is the software driver, which is primitive, and which apparently requires the included ArcSoft software to use the driver. The driver works only with Windows XP (or an emulator). The manual is all but useless and confusing. The procedure is to mount the negative-strip or slides into a holder, then do a "calibrate" scan with the scanner empty (about 15 seconds), then insert the holder till the first image window "clicks" into position, wait about 7 seconds for the scanner to evaluate each negative or slide density, click "Snap Shot" and then "Transfer" (i.e., Scan), which takes about 9 seconds. The software shows only a coarse-grained copy of the image and indicates when a file is being written, but otherwise gives no activity feedback. When you open the driver, the options are fairly clear, except that B/w negatives should be scanned as "Slides," not "Negatives." The "Format" option offers nothing that can be changed. Four levels of scan quality besides "normal" are available, but higher quality scans take much longer. In short: this scanner is capable of very high quality scans, but for normal quality scans it works well enough to make files that will print very well at 5x7 size. Light weighy and it appears that it will be easy to use.

I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but it arrived in very good condition from what I could see when I received it. I am in the process of relocating to Belhaven and am trying to get settled in. I have plenty of negatives that I received when my parents passed, plus many I have collected that my husband and I have taken over the last 75 years or so that I need to check over to decide what to save for our 5 children. Inexpensive way to digitize slides

Unit was new, well packed and was a great buy. Though made for Windows Vista or XP was able to get it to work on Windows 10 with minimal effort. Manual poorly printed but usable. Gave excellent results on 35mm slides; not easily used for negatives.Read full review...

Works great for B&W negs.

Only works with Windows XP so I left XP (dual boot) on a laptop so I could use the scanner. VuPoint seems to have no plan to upgrade its software which is a shame. Because of this you can buy one of these cheap.
I've bought two. Gave one to a friend.

I've used it mostly to scan old B&W negatives. It works great for these,
but not so great for color slides but I guess you could use PhotoShop or some other program to do some correction. Only problem I've had with the B&W negatives is keeping them dust free, easy if you have carefully stored them in glassine sleeves.Read full review...
