1TB hard drive

I searched many many forums for the biggest hard drive that would fit in a macbook pro. Many people raved about the Western Digital products, so I shopped online for the best deals. I'm in Television, and do alot of editing, etc through Final Cut and such, and needed a BIG upgrade from my tiny lil apple drive. Upon discovering that WD makes a 1TB hd, I searches mac forums about fitment. As with most forums... EVERYONE thinks they know everything. After getting 50 million different answers, I decided to ask the "Genius'" The 1st Genius told me,"sure,it'll fit perfect!" I left the store, and called that same store the next day for a 2nd opinion. Genius #2 said "it will fit barely, but I would recommend a smaller HD as the 1TB run HOT"
After both of them practically said it would fit, I ordered one, received it, and had my IT guy install it. Well, it DOES fit snug, works fine, but the top connector wires stop the top plate from laying flush on the front left corner, unless u r OCD, it is a minor issue for having 1000+ gigs. It DOES fit, but not perfect. VERY quiet as well.

1TB 2.5" Hard Drives don't fit in all Laptops.

We have found out thru trial and error that the 1TB 2.5" Hard Drive is thicker than the other Hard Drives. Therefore they do not fit in all Notebooks/Laptops. They don't fit in Toshibas, Hewlett Packard and some Dells so far. Make sure that your Hard Drive carrier has the extra room you need to fit this size Hard Drive. A 750GB fits fine, trying to make a `1TB fit is a pain. For the extra 250Gb it's not worth it, you probably wouldn't notice the difference anyway.Read full review...

Useful capacity, quirky form factor

The 1TB storage capacity in a laptop-size disk comes in very handy. Using one in a unibody MacBook Pro works rather nicely, but only because there's just about enough room for it under the battery cover.

Beware, however, the form factor. If you want to use it as external storage, the slim enclosures won't fit. These disks are a bit fatter (taller) than the typical 2.5" disks, so won't fit in many 2.5" external enclosures -you'll have to hunt for one that allows for taller disks - needs a couple more millimeters.

The drive wont fit just any computer, but it is a very fast and reliable HD

I bought this hard drive to replace the 120gb drive that came in my laptop. I had to use an adapter because, my laptop originally came with an IDE interface drive and this drive is a SATA interface drive. The drive is also thicker than a standard 2.5 hard drive, but I was able to modify the hard drive caddy to accommodate both the thicker drive and the fact that the adapter set the drive back about a quarter of an inch. This is not something I would recommend doing for just anybody. I was very happy with the outcome. The drive performs very well, and made a great upgrade to my laptop. It is a very fast and reliable hard drive. Western Digital is the only brand of hard drive I will buy.Read full review...

Fits Aluminum MacBook Pro

With 2.5 inch format drives in laptop applications you must to be careful that its not too thick. Many available 2.5 inch drives are sized for small external enclosures. In my short search this was the largest volume and best deal available for a Aluminum case MacBook Pro 15 inch. It fit in, was an easy replacement and is working just fine now.

NOTE This review may be outdated as in it refers to the first generation of MacBook Pros. I have no idea if this would work in later models. In my case it worked perfectly and for the life of the unit!

For people who wants lots of storage.

Nice little hard disk with lots of storage space.

After formatting it, you would have only 931 GB. This is normal as 1 TB when converted by the computer as binary becomes 931GB.

I think the manufacturer should have just said that this is a 931GB of usable space.

I use SSD for boot drive and this drive for storage.

Excellent but make sure your drive bay is deep enough to fit it.

I purchased a generic knock off that lasted less than 6 months so get the real thing. This is an excellent upgrade for most notebooks PROVIDED you have the bay space to accommodate it. It is slightly larger than other drives so make sure you have space. It is not easy to modify most cases if it is not and you will be stuck using it as an external drive.Read full review...
