This was a great movie. Lots of lifes lessons. For example it shows how some people are very rich, some are middle class, and some are very poor. It show that each class of families have their own set of problems and we just have to deal with them the best way we can. It also teaches that honesty is always the best policy, no matter how tempting it is to lie or cheat. I truly enjoyed this movie it is a classic. My children have seen both Willy Wonka and Charlie and the chocolate factory and they like Willy Wonka the best. I could hear my children laughing all through this movie. If you want to buy a movie for young children then this movie you should buy. My son said it was one of the best movies he has ever seen. I highly recommend buying this movie.Read full review...

A movie to enjoy again and agan

I am 50 years old and am just getting around to seeing this classic children's movie. Surprisingly, it is just as enjoyable for adults. It works on two levels at once. Very well made production, especially for it's time. Amazing set and props. Terrific music with wonderful lyrics and great performances all around, especially from the zany Gene Wilder. Stays pretty faithful to the book too. It presents important lessons that all children need to learn in an entertaining way. I find I don't mind seeing it again and again, which is rare for me. (I am seeing it several times because I am presenting it to a class.) I highly recommend it, but of course, you must read the book to get the full Chocolate Factory experience.Read full review...

A CLASSIC!

For me Gene Wilder will always be the true Willy Wanka (sorry Johnny Dep) and I will probably never stop having the Oompa Loompa song pop into my head at odd moments. Quite frankly this movie was such a wonderful translation of Roald Dahl's book, that I was surprised that anyone would want to remake it.

The storyline is brilliant, the "lessons" universal, and the special effects, cheesy but in a good good way. As I follow Charlie's quest for the ticket and his journey through the factory I feel his sadness, joy and wonder.

When I was picking out DVDs for my kids, this was at the top of the list. It is a must have for Childs DVD library.Read full review...

A family favorite

Willy Wonka has been a favorite of ours for many years. We love its similarities to the Roald Dahl book that my husband and I read when we were kids and we love Gene Wilder's portrayal of Willy Wonka. This DVD will be watched many times in the years to come with our entire family. We have also watched the "extras" and really enjoyed seeing some of the behind the scenes clips. i've got a golden ticket!

this is truly a classic, i remember it being read to us in elementary. after the book was done the teacher brought in a tape of it and let us watch it.
the psychotic johnny depp version has nothing on the original.
I purchased this because i am an L.P.N at a childrens nursing home, i try to take movies in for the kids to watch to give them a little extra entertainment. they absolutely loved it!Read full review...

The Original Is Still King

I loved this movie as a kid, and still enjoy it today. I was very interested upon hearing about the 2005 remake, which I HATED for too many reasons to innumerate. Would love to see a remake that improved upon the original in all the right areas, yet without taking 'creative' liberties that distort the original concept beyond recognition. [Incidentally, I also hated the live action remake of the How The Grinch Stole Christmas.] Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is an endearing classic. Well, at least I think so.Read full review...
