RE: A Very Powerful Tool

My application for this device is as a musician. That means I generally use it as a fast/flexible/convenient documenting tool. Having said that, it can be used to make professional sound-quality recordings. It does sound excellent. Its power is awesome due to the many features from editing and a variety of sound format settings, recording modes, storage capability and smart, simple, easy to use user interface.

I had to have both onboard microphones and XLR/1/4" external inputs for my applications. This device satisfies.

If you are a smart sound engineer this device can actually function as a stand alone professional recording system. In addition it comes with an LE Edition Cubase (DAW) and Mastering Software--100% professional in the right hands. Record stereo or mono four track, bounce, add effects, mix, and master back to stereo.

You can use the USB to dump/store/library your files and folders onto your computer for cataloging and storage and then Import any file into Cubase (or Wavelab mastering software) for editing and further tracking. Amazingly it acts as a stand alone direct interface/sound card into your DAW so you can use its inputs and mics to record straight to your recorder.

This item is often used by film and television people for field recording and podcasters for their productions.

It's a little more money than some of its competition and well worth it. It is sturdy, strong, good grip material, weighty and has a very useful plastic case. It has a good built in speaker, but I recommend a cheap pair of flat response studio headphones (with removable 1/4" adapter) to go with it, so you can appreciated the great sound quality while in process.Read full review...

Older, but does the job

I got a little nervous when i started this recorder up for the first time- it took a really long time to boot up. But after that first time, for some reason everything has worked great. Strong contender for the pro or amateur
