Zoom R16

Hardware is good. Cubase is a demanding learning curve, with NO SUPPORT, NO INSTRUCTION WHATSOEVER. The only support, for the software, I found was a forum set up by Steinberg, there response (from a monitor) was basically "If you can't figure it out your just stupid" Hardware would be better with software support. NOT worth the $400 for a month of aggrievation and insults. It will give you a volume control for a monitor, NOT worth the money paid. Be good at programming as you will have no support what so ever. Great interface for DAW

Not only is this a great multitracker but also an awesome interface. 8 inputs make it easy for recording drums straight to my DAW. Very lightweight and portable. Even has two mics built in for recording room sound (great for practice). The main thing I bought this for is for the interface. Once drivers are installed and Vst and bus connections made your good to go. Faders mover the faders in the DAW. No need for the mouse. 8 input interface ... you can't beat it for the price.Read full review

Simultaneous 8 track recording

I use it as a recorder more than an interface and it excels at that. Since it records directly to a SD card I am able to then export easily to my Cakewalk DAW. It allows me to overdub multiple tracks with no latency issues whatsoever. Read full review

8 tracks of crystal clear soun

the only drawback I've had to this device is that it defaults to 96k sample rate, which is twice as good as all my other digital equipment. so when I move these files, if they were recorded at 96k, I have to downsample with the laptop before I put it on other digital recorders. you can set this up for each project however to the standard 44k.
this box records dry for the most part. there are effects but they're hard to set up. but 8 channels in, and this is the most noise-free recording I've ever heard in my life. none of those ground problems I've had with other boxes, laptops, etc, because it's all done through a very clean power system. If I didn't know better, I'd say all these inputs are individually isolated.
this is a great product and was certainly worth the money to me, as a convenient 'digital swiss-army recorder'

Zoom R16 perfect choice

This is an unbelievable digital mixer/recorder. Easy to use and provides great sound both live and recorded. 8 input tracks that can be extended to 16 tracks. Well worth the money.

Best recorder available at the price

most "multi track" recorders out there really will not record more than 2 tracks, The Zoom R16 is one of the few that breaks the lie of "multi track" and gives you a full 8 input 24 bit recording capability. This is designed for the musician but works well for any recording including podcasting. It emulates a huge Reel to Reel so you can easily rewind and punch in record over audio if you want as well as do some limited mastering on the unit it's self. It has a fairly powerful DSP that allows you to not only work with Dry audio and add effects and shaping later but lets you also do it WET and apply the EQ, Compressor, Limiter, etc.. to the channel live to be recorded.

This is a MUST BUY for anyone that is serious about recording audio easily in the field.

Make yours, a labor of love. You won't regret it !!!

I've had this Zoom R-16 on my wish list for at least 2 yrs. I was amazed that I was Makable to get a manual in English. My seller was in Japan, only stands to reason the manual would be in Japanese. Not a problem in this day and age, internet. Zoom helped me acquire a pdf Manual, (no Charge), but more amazing, they sent me a new registration / code to download the current Cubase LE DAW to fully enjoy my Zoom & work station experience. As a retired Vietnam veteran, living on fixed income, I was finally able to acquire my dream goal, which was to have the ability to record all of the songs I've written< ( 150+), and leave as my legacy. The learning curve is INTENSE, but I could never be more happier than I am now and satisfied.Read full review

Excellent

Great recorder for home projects.

One gotcha that took me a while to figure out....After recording the only way I found to save the project info. to the memory card was to power down the recorder. If the memory card is removed before this the sound files are there ....however....they cannot be loaded again on the recorder because the extra 'project' file information is not written to the .wav files.

Don't make this mistake after working for hours to get your 'perfect' take !

portable digital mixer, recorder, audio editor all in one.

This is an excellent portable digital mixer, recorder, computer interface. It's really all in one system. However, the build quality is mainly for portable lightweight, and it cannot beat a stand alone mixer.Read full review
