Good deal on Ecobee3 smart thermostat!

Smart algorithm ramps up and down HVAC equipment to optimize power consumption and maintain temperature and humidity around setpoint. Solid WiFi hardly needs to be rebooted to stay online. Although not as good-looking as the Nest design, though.Read full review

ECOBEE is pretty danged good

Background: I have Honeywell smart thermostats in my main residence. My nephew had one of these. I put one in my Mom's and it compares fine.

The Honeywell Home Suite sends me monthly reports on usage and compares v. last years.

Full disclosure: The ecobee at mom's is piggybacked on my nephew's system.

For the discounted cost I got - I am more then pleased. Its a fraction of the Nests, its less than my Honeywells and it looks very nice.

Great smart thermostat

I had researched smart thermostats and decided on the ecoBee 3 rather than the Nest or the Lennox. The ability to have remote sensors along with the wifi enabled features was a huge selling point for me since we have two rooms that vary greatly in their temps during the day. So far (only had it a month) it's been great. Installation was not bad at all though I do consider myself reasonably tech savvy. Little things like having two back-plates and the small built-in leveling device are a testament to good design and customer centered product development.Read full review

Very Nice Upgrade

I replaced both of my non-programmable thermostats with Ecobee 3's. Installation and configuration was fairly easy with the prompt assistance of tech support who provided the proper connections diagram after I sent a picture of my existing thermostat's terminals. Hard to tell after a month whether there will be any significant savings, but I like the flexibility of controlling my home's HVAC system and look forward to the usage reports that will be available after a period of time. Nice interface with the apps.Read full review

A bit more invovled than i thought

I bought a nest and an ecobee.. I have two thermostats and figured i try both these offerings out.. One one each thermostat.

Nest install was a breeze. Ecobee required power on a blue wire or rewiring at the hvac panel with the included harness.. Needless to say... For me this was way more work than the nest.

Also i learned the humidifier and dehumidifiers ecobee manages are bug ticket hvac integrated or adjacent systems.. Not in room portables.. That i can find anyways..

So.. Thus far ecbees edge over nest for me:
1. Price.. I got it for a few bucks less than the nest on ebay.
2. Looks different.. Some may like the interface more than nest
3. Has room temperature sensors

Drawback:
1. Potentially complicated install if you dont have a hot c (blue) wire at your thermostat.

Ecobee Thermostat

This is the version that has just been replaced by an updated one but it suits our needs just fine. Unlike some of the other units out there, this one has sensors that can be placed around the house to kind of balance the heating/cooling situation of the entire house (or, in our case, each entire floor) by taking into account the disparate conditions from room to room. One is built into the thermostat and one standalone unit comes with. Additional can be bought separately in sets.

So far, so good!

Easy to program, lots of efficiency functions and looking forward to a good long life.

Oh, and it works with Alexa!

Can't hardly ask for more!

Best thermostat with remote sensors in the market

I was choosing between nest and ecobee. Ecobee not just less expensive, but also has sensors which are awesome when you don't want one room to be overheated and another too cold - it detects which room is occupied and use particular sensor.Read full review

Very good thermostat needing minor tweeks

Works well. The interface is easy to use. Setup was straight forward and it integrates well with homekit.
One issue is that the weather widget updates infrequently (over an hour between updates in my case) which leaves the "current" outside temperature stale and pretty much useless.Read full review

We are very happy with our Ecobee 3

The thermostat was very easy to install and program. I had a C wire which made the installation very simple. My wife loves it. We use the remote sensor in our Family Room and it definitely works well for us.

Recently went on vacation - and was very pleased at how easy it was to program into the system.

We did not register it with the manufacturer because we treasure our privacy.

Pretty good wifi thermostat

Was easy to install once I figured out how to get the C-wire from my furnace. The schedule and comfort settings are pretty flexible. The additional sensor was somewhat useful in summer to keep our south facing bedroom cozy.Read full review
