I really liked this movie because it includes both the theatrical and extended editions in one single disc and the cover looks more better than the VHS. One of the things they could have improved the audio is the Spanish language because the accent is not compared with the TV Spanish version. The audio sounds like in a Spain version. This is a great movie for sci-fi lovers because it has good special effects and the audio sounds very explosive when you put it in stereo with the DVD player. If you haven't seen this movie, something is wrong

Drawing from the title of this review, if you haven't seen this movie by now, something is wrong. You're just one of those people who skip blockbusters, listen to others talk about them for months or years until the stars of the film become superstars, and the characters they portray become icons. Then, if you ever admit it, everyone looks at you and says incredulously, "You mean you actually haven't seen INDEPENDENCE DAY? Are you KIDDING?"

Well, welcome back to popular culture. If you needed to read a review before seeing or buying this film, you need only understand this: INDEPENDENCE DAY was one of the films that galvanized audiences squarely behind the stardom of Will Smith, who literally does no wrong in this movie. He portrays a military pilot and fighter who meets the aliens head-on with a gutsy swagger that left every young man leaving the movie trying to emulate him.

Despite the predictable ending -- we win -- all the fun is in getting there, right up to the politically incorrect, celebratory cigars enjoyed by Smith and Goldblum at the conclusion. It is an exciting, uplifting, feel-good, heroes always win kind of sci-fi thriller that at times is creepingly real. One scene in the movie says it all -- when the aliens bear down with rays on the White House and blow it to smithereens, the way some of us wish an alien ship would do right now (lol!)

The special effects? Everything you'd expect, but the acting and the strength of the ensemble delivering this screenplay is worth every minute on the screen. Stop reading this silly review, get on eBay right now, and find a widescreen copy with a good price. Now, BUY IT OR BID NOW! You don't want to face another person who says, "You haven't seen INDEPENDENCE DAY?." do you?

Great Sci-Fi Movie

From the very first time that I saw this movie I fell in love with it.
Here you have aliens hovering the earth in their space crafts. Jeff Goldbloom's character has figured out that the aliens are going to strike earth. So, along with his father they go to the President to let him know what is happening. One of the Presidents aides happens to be Goldbloom's ex-wife and she thinks he is crazy. He talks the President into getting out of there and they do. There is another couple, Will Smith's character and his girlfriend, have to part ways because he is in the military and is called back to the base. He tells her she can come to the base with her son. The rest of the story is the love that had never left Goldbloom and his wife and the new love between Smith and his girlfriend. The way the world came together in a crisis and helped each other, no body was trying to pass the buck on to someone else. Smith and Goldbloom are the heroes. I am a romantic at heart and therefore the love stories in this movie are great. There is also the love between a father and his children that has a unique turn to the story. I guess the one thing I did not like about the movie was the President's wife dieing that was sad especially when you have a little child. I got the DVD because I had the movie on VHS and wanted to have a copy on DVD. All in all I highly recommend this movie especially if you love Sci-Fi.Read full review...

Worth the Watch!!

As with any movie of this nature, you have to be willing to sit back and suspend some of the preconcieved notions of what is possible! If you are able to do that this movie ranks pretty decent, I'll rank it a Good, but perhaps Average is more like it when compared to other better movies out there!. I couldn't compare it to the NEW War of the Worlds movie with Mr. Stuck on himself Tom Cruise or the NEW Poseiden Adventure movies! They were Excellent fast paced, action Packed. Independence Day was better than Movies like Deep Impact and Volcano! Dantes Peak however takes the cake as far as natural disater movies go. Anyway with ID4, Imagine putting yourself in the shoes of one of the charecters and figuring out what you would do!! The special effects were impressive and in most cases, the movie came off very believable (if you had suspended plausible Reality!) There were a couple of instances where I was like...NO way possible did they LIVE after miraculously ducking into a locked tunnel storage room. The fire would have engulfed that room and when they crawled out of their surroundings, the entire area was descimated! I also didn't appreciate Most of Will Smith's comedy routines with the exception of when they were taking off to the mother ship! Ooops!! Overall I feel it is a worthy addition to someones DVD Library but only after they already have a copy of the other more worthwhile movies I have mentioned! With or without Popcorn, this movie was worth the watch so if you haven't seen it, do so! Awesome Movie!

It really does take an alien race to destroy half the world to bring all humans together. As far as the other reviewer talking about how the fire would engulf the lady and son in the tunnel, it's totally possible and people have come out of worst things than that. I love Will Smith's upbeat attitude. I mean someone has to have a bright side and keep your spirits up when the whole world is being destroyed all around you. The special effects are amazing in the video and they spared no expense on it either. It's so cool and eerie how everything happens and yet you actually feel like this is really possible. I love the movie a lot because it's really the only alien movie besides Signs that I can truly say, I can picture this happening in real life.Read full review...

GOOD SCI-FI Movie!

a scientist played by Jeff Goldblum once actually had a fistfight with a man (Bill Pullman) who is now president of the United States. That same president, late in the film, personally flies a jet fighter to deliver a payload of missiles against an attack by extraterrestrials. Independence Day is the kind of movie so giddy with its own outrageousness that one doesn't even blink at such howlers in the plot. Independence Day is a pastiche of conventions from flying-saucer movies from the 1940s and 1950s, replete with icky monsters and bizarre coincidences that create convenient shortcuts in the story. (Such as the way the girlfriend of one of the film's heroes--played by Will Smith--just happens to run across the president's injured wife, who are then both rescued by Smith's character who somehow runs across them in alien-ravaged Los Angeles County.) The movie is just sheer fun, aided by a cast that knows how to balance the retro requirements of the genre with a more contemporary feel.Read full review...

One of the best alien invation movies.

Good movie, engaging, exiting, and intelligent, star studded and doesn't take it self too serous, it's not funny like but it has some great one liners.

Get Your Popcorn Ready!

When this movie first came out, it was ground-breaking in a lot of ways, using CG graphics on an epic scale and was one of those rare movies that combines science fiction, comedy, drama, disaster, romance, horror, thrills and chills across the board equally & effectively. It was Will Smith's role in this movie (his first major film role) that catapulted him from Fresh Prince to superstar status.

A SiFi Classic!

This modern SiFi Classic has the sprit of the UFO invasion films of the 50's and 60's . The big difference is that the story development is better and the special affects are amazing.!
My favorite scene is when the aliens destroy the white house. The theater audience burst out in cheers and applauds!
I broke me up.
